#Coronavirus: Hypotheses remain open
New York (ANN)- The World Health Organization released the long-awaited report on the origin of COVID-19 on Tuesday. Following an investigation by an international team visiting Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province in China, where the world-threatening disease originated and is still being dealt with in Dec 2019.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said the team had visited Wuhan, from 14 January -10 February 2021, and today a preliminary report was published, calling for further studies.
The head of the WHO, doubted its discovery that the virus did not come from a spill at a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
Although the information obtained is likely to be transmitted between animals and humans, WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the team had not tested the samples extensively and vowed to further investigate the possibility.
“In the case of the WHO, all assumptions remain on the table,” Tedros said in an unusual statement posted on the agency’s website on Tuesday.
The head of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros said, “We have not yet found the source of the virus,” he said.
Meanwhile, the team visited several laboratories in the City for the first time to detect COVID-19 in Wuhan, taking into account the possibility of the virus entering humans, or humans as a result of the laboratory test.
The results were interpreted as expected and left many unanswered questions. The team suggested further research on any area except laboratory speculation that has been largely linked since Dec 2019, when the disease began in Wuhun.
Meanwhile, the release of the report has been repeatedly delayed, raising questions about whether the Chinese side is trying to distort conclusions to prevent accusations of a catastrophe in China.
A World Health Organization official said late last week that he hoped the report would be available “in the coming days.”
“Finding the origin of a virus takes time and we owe it to the world to find the source so we can collectively take steps to reduce the risk of this happening again. No single research trip can provide all the answers.” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He said it advances our understanding in important ways, while raising questions that will need to be addressed by further studies, as noted in the report. “As far as WHO is concerned, all hypotheses remain on the table. This report is a very important beginning, but it is not the end. We have not yet found the source of the virus, and we must continue to follow the science and leave no stone unturned as we do,” said Dr Tedros.
