US and EU, have responded to the calls of the Prime Minister and regional administrations in Somalia

Somalia, Mogadishu (ANN)-The United States and the European Union (EU), have welcomed a decision by Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble rejected to extend the term of his government.

 

Prime Minister Roble’s decision comes after unrest and violence rocked Mogadishu in the last few days following for a government extension term, sparking chaos and fighting.

The United States and the European Union (EU) have welcomed the withdrawal of the Hirshabelle and Galmudug regional administrations, saying in a joint statement in the past few hours that they do not support the extension of the term of the House of Representatives Government agencies.

The US Embassy in Mogadishu, in a statement posted on its Twitter account tonight, praised the leaders of the two regional administrations of Galmudug and HirShabelle for opposing the extension of the government’s term, instead supporting the passage of the September 17th agreemen.

The United States has urged President Farmajo to accept it, describing it as a clear path to dialogue and peace.

Meanwhile, the EU Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador Nicolas Berlanga, welcomed the decision to reject the extension of term, and commended the EU envoy for the courage shown by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and the Administrations on the possibility of a general election in the country.

Ambassador Berlanga, in a brief statement on his Twitter account, pointed out that violence was not allowed in Somalia, and that the only way for Somali leaders to hold talks was to stabilize the situation.
