Hargeisa (ANN )-Somaliland Online Media SOMA Association clarifies that it is not part of any meetings held with the Somaliland Presidency by an alleged committee claiming to represent the media.” accooding to SOMA Association Press Release.

The Somaliland Online Media Association (SOMA), an organization representing digital media platforms, has publicly distanced itself from a self-proclaimed committee that reportedly engaged in discussions with the Somaliland Presidency while claiming to represent the nation’s media.

SOMA, an umbrella body for internet-based media outlets—including  websites, YouTube channels, and social media platforms—emphasized that no consultations were held with its member journalists prior to these meetings. The association stated that the committee in question lacks legitimacy and does not speak for the broader media community.

In an official statement issued tonight and signed by SOMA Chairman Mustafe Abdi Mohamed (Mustafe Janaale), the association categorically denied any involvement or prior coordination with the Presidency. The full release reads:

“The Somaliland Online Media Association (SOMA) is not affiliated with the committee claiming to represent Somaliland’s media.

SOMA clarifies that it has no connection to the meetings held between the Somaliland Presidency and this unmandated group. The association was neither consulted nor included in these engagements.

“We therefore urge the Somaliland Presidency and government at large to recognize that SOMA—a collective of professional online media platforms—has no association with these discussions. A committee that lacks the trust and endorsement of the media cannot legitimately claim to represent Somaliland’s press.”

SOMA remains committed to advancing independent, ethical journalism in Somaliland, promoting peace, unity, and democratic values. The association continues to empower online journalists as key contributors to public discourse while enhancing the credibility and professionalism of digital media in the region.
