Hargeisa (ANN)-The government of Somaliland has recognized the Somaliland Teachers Association, which has been struggling to get recognition in order tobe achieve its goals.

The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Buxane has today presented the officials of the Somaliland Teachers Association (SOLTA) that from now on they are a legal organization that has met the requirements, as they have united Somaliland teachers.

“We are excited to announce that the Somaliland Teachers’ Association (SOLTA) has officially been recognized by the Somaliland Ministry of Education and Science.
This approval, marked by the official letter ref: WWS/W/01/229/2004 dated 30/09/2024 from Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane, Minister of Education and Science, is a historic step forward for teachers and the education sector in Somaliland.


Somaliland Teachers’ Association (SOLTA), was initially granted a Trade Union Registration Certificate by the Somaliland Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs & Family on 25th-March-2021, is now formally approved to represent Primary, Intermediate, and Secondary school teachers across the nation. This recognition solidifies our commitment to advancing the teaching profession and uniting teachers throughout Somaliland.


Reflecting on our journey, Somaliland Teachers’ Association (SOLTA) held its first General Assembly Meeting on 20th–December-2021 at Mansoor Hotel – Hargeisa; during this pivotal event, delegates representing teachers from all regions of Somaliland elected twenty-three members of our Board of Directors, regional governors, and five members of the executive committee, marking the beginning of our united efforts to champion teachers’ welfare and educational progress.


Somaliland Teachers’ Association (SOLTA) extends its deepest gratitude to the Minister of Education and Science, Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane, for this monumental approval. We also express sincere thanks to the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs & Family for their foundational support.
