The meeting between the Presidents of Somalia and Somaliland, currently taking place in Djibouti, is on the brink of failure

Djibouti(ANN)-The President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, who is losing notoriety both nationally and internationally, has done everything possible to organise in Djibouti the start of a new round of talks between Somalia and Somaliland.

In the end, Guelleh succeeded in welcoming to Djibouti on Sunday, June 14, 2020, the President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed Farmaajo, the President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, and many other senior politicians from Somalia and Somaliland.

The first meeting between Somalia and Somaliland started this afternoon in Djibouti and already Farmaajo and Muse Bihi have not been able to agree on the issues to be discussed in the forthcoming meetings. Muse Bihi has asked for two points to be included in the subjects of the talks, namely: the recognition of Somaliland’s independence and the recognition of the Hargeisa massacre of the Siad Barre era as genocide.

The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmaajo, immediately rejected both proposals by Muse Bihi and the meeting reached an impasse.

This situation is similar to the February 12, 2020 meeting between the President of Somalia and Somaliland in Addis Ababa. The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, tried at the time to bring the two officials together, but the meeting ended in failure
