Hargeisa(ANN)-The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) Authority has partnered with Dahabshil group to raise funds for the recently launched aid campaign named “For Your Sake, Somalia” meant to help the more than six million people who desperately need humanitarian assistance following droughts in Somaliland and Somalia.
The two have adopted a unified response to halt the deteriorating food insecurity and rising malnutrition in the affected areas, by raising and providing an integrated package of life-saving humanitarian assistance.
The CEO of the Dahabshil Group Mr. Abdirashid Mohamed Said Dualeh, speaking to BBC Somali language services said,” Dahabshil group of Companies has being always ready to mobilise its resources to help and to support those poor people affected by the prolonged drought conditions, is not only supporting the humanitarian cause but also it is discharging the corporate responsibility to save lives.
Mr. Abdirashid Mohamed Said Dualeh, during the interview with BBC Somali service announced that of today, Dahabshil group of Companies will be teaming up with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC)to raise the funds and reach to people whom have been adversely affected by the severe drought.
“We at Dahabshil group have been stepping up efforts to help communities cope with a severe drought in all Somali regions it operates by providing food, water, medicine and has donated $ 1 Million in cash this year,” he said.
Answering a question from the BBC reporter regarding the contributions made by the company to the Burao hospital during the onset of the outbreak of the acute watery diarrhea (AWD).
He said, “Dahabshiil Group of companies, handed over 3000 IV infusion units to medical authorities in Burao as part of the Group’s continuous contributions to the on-going drought recovery programme underway in Somaliland. Dahabshil group of Companies has in the past always been proactive in responding to such humanitarian crises and shall continue to support to stand by them.
The UAE is expected to give at least Dh500 million aid to famine-hit Somalia in the coming weeks.
The campaign has been launched as directed by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
