Hargeisa (ANN)-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), conducted an official visit today to the headquarters of the Custodial Corps in the heart of the capital, Hargeisa.
Upon arrival, the President was warmly welcomed by the Commander of the Custodial Corps, Major General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Libaax), who received him with a ceremonial salute presented by units of the Custodial Corps. The President proceeded to inspect various sections of the headquarters to assess its operations and facilities.
Accodding to statement Spokesman for the President of the Republic of Somaliland Hussein Adan Igeh (Deyr), The visit commenced with a welcoming address from Major General Ahmed Awale Yusuf, who provided the President with an overview of the critical responsibilities undertaken by the Custodial Corps, including their role in public safety and the rehabilitation and care of detainees.
In his remarks, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) commended the Custodial Corps for their invaluable service to the nation and highlighted their essential role in maintaining security and order. The President stated:
“The Custodial Corps is a vital institution that ensures the safety and well-being of our citizens. Your dedication to duty is the backbone of law enforcement and public security. I commend you for fulfilling this noble mission. Beyond detaining offenders, your constitutional mandate includes rehabilitating and reforming inmates to reintegrate them into society.”
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting and strengthening the Custodial Corps. He announced plans to enhance their working conditions through salary increments, improved welfare, and professional development opportunities. The President explained:
“To enable you to carry out your duties effectively, we will provide the necessary training, resources, and support. Furthermore, the Custodial Corps will benefit from salary increases, as well as access to healthcare and education benefits, aligning with those of other security forces in the country.”say the statement for Spokesman for President.
President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) also unveiled plans to improve the educational programs available to inmates, including the introduction of a specialized curriculum aimed at fostering their personal development.
The President remarked:
“We will enhance the education programs provided within prisons, with the aim of equipping inmates with skills and knowledge for a better future. A tailored educational curriculum for prisoners will soon be implemented as part of this initiative.” ) According to Spokesman Adan Igeh (Deyr).
Additionally, the President emphasized the urgent need for the construction of dedicated facilities for female and juvenile detainees. He acknowledged the challenges faced by women and children in existing facilities and pledged to address these issues as a priority.
