Somalia: The Cabinet calls for assistance helping the victims of the Drought

Mogadishu(ANN)The weekly Cabinet meeting of the Federal Government of Somalia chaired by the Prime Minister H.E. Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke convened today. Numerous issues were covered including the recent official visit by Prime Minster Sharmarke to Italy and his subsequent visit to Beledweyne, Hiiraan.

The Interior Minister Abdirizaq Omar Mohamed detailed to the meeting the current security situation of the nation and stressed the government was continuing with its plan to strengthen the fight against terrorism. He also gave an overall view of the recent victorious battle in which Puntland Forces eradicated the threat of Al Shabab from its regions. Jointly the attendees of the Cabinet meeting commended Puntland State for their triumph over Al Shabab.

Prime Minister Sharmarke informed the Cabinet meeting the outcome about his recent official visit to Italy, and pointed out that among others he discussed with the Italian Government the re-enactment of Somalia/Italy Business partnership which has a long history. On the other hand the Prime Minister also mentioned in his recent two day visit to Beledweyne. He and his high level delegation met with the traditional elders and other members of the civil society and had a productive discussion with them regarding their participation in the ongoing State Building Process for Hiiraan and Middle Shebelle in Jowhar.

The Cabinet also vigorously discussed the severe drought that has hit some regions of the country, and has made call to the International Community for assistance in tackling this natural disaster.
