Kenya’s diplomatic corps has been hijacked by political patronage

Nairobi (ANN)- Kenya’s diplomatic corps has been hijacked by political patronage, sidelining seasoned diplomats for party loyalists and campaign rally ushers. Our embassies are now led by individuals whose only qualification is allegiance to the ruling party.

Uganda is represented by a former Deputy Governor of Kisii. Tanzania’s envoy is a Kikuyu farmer from Kitale. Rwanda has a political lackey, while Addis Ababa—home to the African Union—is entrusted to a former District Officer.

Djibouti has a military officer. Somalia, a politician. Pretoria, Windhoek, Luanda, Gaborone, Lusaka—none led by career diplomats. Cairo, Rabat, Abuja, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar—same story.

This isn’t diplomacy. It’s an auction of Kenya’s international standing.

Ma u malaynay in saaxiibadaa xiisaynayaan mawduuca Warbixintan? la wadaag oo la sheergaree.
