Nairobi (ANN)-The Kenyan government says it has restored diplomatic relations with Somalia following a long-running dispute between the two countries, which have led to the complete closure of Kenyan and Somali embassies.

A brief press statement from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a copy of which has reached Araweelo News Network, stated that Kanya and Somalia will soon be re-establishing relations between the two countries.

The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the Qatari government and the international community were playing a key role in resolving the dispute between the two countries.

The Federal Government of Somalia, for its part, has said that, in the interests of good neighborliness, it is announcing the resumption of diplomatic relations with Kenya.

Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, noted that the two governments agreed to safeguard the friendly relations between the two countries, based on the principles, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.

“The Somali government has taken this step, given the lack of interference in the internal affairs of parties, equality, cooperation, and peaceful co-existence,” said Minister Al-Adala.
