Khartoum(ANN)-Arab leaders and other Western diplomats and UN officials are pressuring Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok not to step down.
Last Tuesday, Hamdok received phone calls from a number of Arab and international leaders, all urging him not to resign as Sudan’s prime minister.
Also, multiple sources said that the prime minister recently informed al-Burhan of his decision to leave his job and informed his office members to prepare for the handover, According to Sudan Tribune.
On the other hand, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud spoke with al-Burhan and Hamdok on Tuesday.
Al-Saud stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to Sudan’s stability, calling for the immediate formation of a new government with Prime Minister Hamdok.
“The agreement is between the army and the civilian population in the interest of Sudan and its brothers,” Al-Saud said, according to the official Saudi news agency.
Al-Saud, urged Hamdok to reverse his decision, and asked Al-Burhaan to reconsider his position and make the necessary compromises to get the country out of its current crisis.
Hamdok, meanwhile, has been contacted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Arab League and the US Special Representative for the Horn of Africa and other diplomats asking him to reverse his resignation, but it is unclear. He has accepted international demands, while it is difficult for us to trust the functioning of a government and the support of politicians from other parties and the people, and the military does not have much confidence in the military council.
