#Hague(ANN)-The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Tuesday announced the final verdict in a maritime dispute between Somalia and Kenya.
The resolution comes after a lawsuit filed by the Somali federal government against Kenya several years ago was submitted to the United Nations High Court in 2014, the commission that works on border disputes between governments.
The two countries share a border with Italy and Britain, which both gained independence in 960.
The controversy comes as Somalia has been without a government for thirty years, following the collapse of the central military government, which was once Africa’s most powerful and respected state, but since its collapse Somalia has become a place, Chaos, except Somaliland, which has enjoyed a stable democracy for thirty years, following the withdrawal of the Union of the Somali Republic in 1960 and regaining its independence on 18 May 1991.
Kenya, one of the countries with troops inside Somalia that supports the federal government of Somalia, has been bold in asserting its ambitions in recent years, and the dispute over the Indian Ocean border has led to a rift in relations, criticism and verbal warfare
