 Is the Dessie’s capture important for the end of the Ethiopian war?

Addis Ababa (ANN)-Fighters from the Tigrean People’s Liberation Army (TDF) said on Saturday that they had captured the strategic town of Dessie in Ethiopia’s Amhara region.

Desseie, fierce fighting has recently erupted between TDF forces and government forces backed by Amhara militias, resulting in tens of thousands of Amharas seeking refuge from incitement to violence and fleeing the city.

The fighters pushed Ethiopian government forces from Dessie and were headed towards the town of Kombolcha, Getachew Reda, spokesperson for the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), told Reuters by satellite phone from an undisclosed location.

He said Tigrayan forces had captured numerous Ethiopian soldiers. But the government has denied the allegations.

Dessei’s capture comes as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is in the throes of a defeat by government forces and Amhara militias, visited the town of Bahardar on Saturday.

His visit comes amid fierce fighting between federal government forces backed by Amhara regional militias and government forces fighting the TPLF, which has reportedly taken control of the strategic town of Dessie after fighting for several months, finally defeated in the last hours by the Federal Government forces.

Why Dessie is so important of war.?

This town, known as Dessye or Dessie, is a town in central Ethiopia in the Amhara region that connects Ethiopia. Dessei is close to Weldiya, another strategic town in North Wallo in the Amhara region, 325 km from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, while Dessie is about 400km from Addis Ababa.

Dessie, located on Mount Tossa, the city is located at an altitude of 2,423 m3, on the slopes of the mountain mermaid, which marks the waterway between the Awash River in the northeast from the Blue Nile to the north.

The West, therefore, has a great strategic significance, and its capture by the TPLF, has been a great victory for them in the war.

It also facilitated the capture of Dessie’s key towns by the TDF, as well as its proximity to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, a sign that Tigrean forces were advancing on the battlefield and eventually wanting to capture easily control. Addis Ababa.
