Ethiopia and Israel bilateral discussion

Addis Ababa (ANN)- Ethiopia and Israel discussed strengthening relations between the two countries, with historical issues of mutual interest discussed during a meeting held on Tuesday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Accoding to Borkena based in Toronto An update from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Gedion Timotheos, the Minister, met with Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia Avraham Neguise.

The report what is stated is that their discussions focused on  “expanding diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.”  The meeting came just days after the Eritrean government sent a message to Saudi Arabia , and the two countries reportedly held discussions  on what was reported to be “key issues of mutual interest,” and “bilateral issues.”

These diplomatic activities  from the two countries came at a time when the key politicians from Tigray were warning that war between Ethiopia and Eritrea could break out at any moment.

The meeting between Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister and Israeli Ambassador also covered ” covered key strategic areas.”  Technology transfer, trade and investment were also topics of discussions. Although the report does not detail these matters.

Meinwhile the Ministry o Foreign Affairs wrote on its social media page.
“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration, with particular emphasis on leveraging Israel’s investments and cutting-edge technologies to support Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms and development initiatives.”

Ethiopia and Israel established full diplomatic relations in 1961. However, Israel and Ethiopia had relations during ancient times when the legendary Queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem as an official guest of King Solomon’s court. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Ethiopia in 2017, Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed had visited Israel in 2019.
