Nairobi (ANN)- AU special envoy and former PM, Kenya Raila Odinga has challenged the union to speed the process of recognizing Somaliland as a fully independent country.

He called on the United Nations and the African Union to forget about Somali unity and accept Somaliland’s independence.

Odinga hosted a dinner in honor of Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi and a delegation led by him on the third day in Nairobi, Kenya, where he met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and other officials.

On Tuesday after meeting Somaliland President Muse Bihi who ended his official three-day visit to Kenya. Odinga Speaking at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, the AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure said that it is impossible to reunite Somalia and Somaliland.

Odinga, a veteran politician from a family with a long history in Kenyan politics and the Horn of Africa region, spoke on the issue of the independence of the Republic of Somaliland.
