Another US Navy warship Guided Missel Accident In Asian Waters Within About Two Monthes

Singapore(ANN) — U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with an oil tanker in Singapore waters Monday morning, leaving five U.S. sailors injured and 10 others missing.

The collision between the U.S. destroyer and the tanker Alnic MC teared a hole beneath the waterline and flooded compartments that include a crew sleeping area.

 

The incident was the second involving U.S. Navy destroyers and merchant vessels in Asian waters within about two months. The following are major collision accidents between U.S. warships and civil vessels occurred during recent years.

 

The U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald and a Philippine container vessel collided on June 17, 2017 in waters south of Tokyo, leaving seven U.S. sailors dead and three others injured, including the Fitzgerald’s commanding officer.

— U.S. Navy guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain collided with a South Korean fishing vessel in international waters off the Korean Peninsula on May 9, 2017, with no injured.

 

— U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Porter collided with a Japanese-owned oil tanker Otowasan in the Strait of Hormuz on Aug. 12, 2012, with no injured.

 

— U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy collided with a dhow while on patrol in the Persian Gulf on July 22, 2004, causing the dhow sinking immediately on collision with no survivors.
