Ankara (ANN) -The leaders of the two countries of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed and the President of the Federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud concluded their meeting in Ankara last night. After the meeting, they issued a joint call to show that both sides should put aside the long-standing dispute that resulted from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 1 January 2024, between the Somaliland and Ethiopia.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has worked hard to remove the MoU between Somaliland and Ethiopia, bringing both sides of Somalia and Ethiopia together in his country for the second time, as Turkey has relations and interests in Somalia and Ethiopia, and is the leader of the countries of Somalia economically and militarily in the sea, as well as his companies manage the Port of Mogadishu in Somalia.

The talks between the two sides in Ankara were Somalia delegation
lead by the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the Ethiopian delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, while the Turkish government facilitated the talks between the two sides, which became the first of its kind. The two sides are facing each other for the first time since the beginning of 2024, when the conflict between the two countries threatened the security situation in the region.

A statement issued after the meeting said that this issue is a call to reach an official agreement as the two sides appoint a technical committee to go through the process that would explain the way the two sides would reach an agreement on the sea passage that Ethiopia wants. It will be, the duration of the agreement, its administration, its use and many things that the committees are required to provide details, and then submit to the authorities of both parties.

The statement of the conclusion issued by both sides in Ankara at midnight on 12 December 2024, was written as follows.
