Addis Ababa(ANN)-Amhara regional state officials, including the Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonen, the state’s president Gedu Andargachew, and the people clearly rejected the federal system and the constitution defying the federal government in Bahir Dar last week. In the massive demonstration, Amhara regional state security forces and possibly members of the armed forces participated in the illegal mutilating and disrespecting of the current legal Ethiopian flag. The federal forces are supposed to be neutral, but those who belong to the Amhara ethnic group seem to disregard the law of the land.
The prime minister of the country didn’t say a word when the constitution is being demolished right in his face, but who knows he might be behind it. Mind you now Ethiopia has two flags one for Amhara’s and the other for the rest of Ethiopians. How on earth is the prime minister allowing the country splitting at the seams like this? Two of the major things that bind the country and the constitution and the flag are destroyed what is next.
People in the states of Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambela, Afar, Somali, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and and Tigrai even Oromia should watch out, because what is going on in Ethiopia now is a soft coup d’etat. Once Abiy and Demeke consolidate state power the will abolish the federal states to grab their land. The will declare Amharic as official national language and force it on every Ethiopian. Are you willing to give up all that have gained in the past 27 years?
One of Tigrai Online visitors by named George put it beautifully in his comment yesterday. “The speeches delivered by both the Ethiopian deputy prime minister Demeke Mekonen and Amhara regional state president, Gedu Andargachew also indicated beyond any doubt that they don’t wish to defend the federal system anymore, instead they emphasized on significance of the unity of the Amhara people only. The two leaders blamed the federal system as if they have not been part and parcel of it for nearly 30 years. They sound as if they belong to another party other than the EPDRF. Overall, it is a sad day for the country as the message given out to the rest of the country is a sense of dividing the country.”
The fate of Ethiopia now hangs in the balance, either the 8 other states will try to defend the constitution and stop the Amhara peacefully or the country will plunge in to civil war and eventually breaking apart.
