Alpha Conde and Guinea celebrated in Somaliland

In the capital's streets of Somaliland, the Guinean and Somaliland flags floated in space with a large portrait of President Alpha Condé planted in a street corner

Guinea’s welcome on Wednesday, July 2, with a protocol of the head of state to the president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi was celebrated with pomp in Hargeisa, the capital.

In the capital’s streets of Somaliland, the Guinean and Somaliland flags floated in space with a large portrait of President Alpha Condé planted in a street corner. The people, en masse, took to the streets to salute what no Guinean president has done in the past and to thank all the people of Guinea.

In Guinea, it is always radio silence around this visit which continues to make a great noise.

During this visit to Conakry of the President of Somaliland-State not recognized by the international community, Alpha Condé would have left out, leaving it to his Foreign Minister Mamadi Toure to take care of his host. No cliché of his meeting with Bihi Abdi has yet leaked.

The latest news is that Guinea, which has been wiped out by Somalia, has not yet officially recognized Somaliland, a small territory of about 137 000 km2, self-proclaimed independent since 1991.
