Ethiopia, Addis Ababa (ANN)- Addis Ababa Alarm to International on Arms Influx to Somalia. As the weapons brought by the Egyptian government to Somalia have created an increase and escalation of tensions in the sensitive Horn of Africa region.

The Ethiopian sound , has voiced serious concerns about recent arms shipments to Somalia, warning of potential regional destabilization.

The concern about weapons is not limited to Ethiopia, but the Republic of Somaliland, which Ethiopia signed an MoU agreement with at the beginning of the year, as well as the regional governments of Somalia, have the same concerns about Ethiopia and Somaliland as a result of the weapons being transported from Egypt to Somalia.
Accoding to Riotimes, the Foreign Minister Federal of Ethiopia, Taye Astke Selassie expressed worry that these weapons could end up in terrorist hands. The situation has reignited tensions between Ethiopia, Somalia, and Egypt, highlighting the complex dynamics in the Horn of Africa.
The region’s history is marked by territorial disputes and military interventions between Ethiopia and Somalia. Ethiopian troops currently operate in Somalia as part of ATMIS, combating the al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Also, the issues of religions and ethnic cultures in the region are related to the wounds that Egypt is scratching, as it wants to take advantage of the Nile River water dispute that has been disputed by Ethiopia for a long time.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia and Egypt remain at odds over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Nile River. A controversial deal signed by Ethiopia with Somaliland for Red Sea access in January 2024 further angered Somalia’s federal government.
This move set the stage for increased regional friction. Egypt and Somalia responded by signing a defense pact in August 2024, strengthening their military ties.
But both Ethiopia and Somaliland have warned that Egypt’s involvement in regional affairs and not leading to conflict will not lead to success.
Egypt should do something about its neighbor war in Gaza and the needy people Rafah water, but it should not cause chaos in the Somali community and the ethnic groups in the Horn of Africa region, said Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, speaking about Egypt’s intervention in the region.
