Somaliland Supreme Court ordered the release of freedom to MP Mohamed Abib

Hargeisa (ANN)-The Supreme Court of Somaliland has ordered the immediate release of Mohamed Abib Yusuf, a member of the House of Representatives who has been in Mandera Prison since 2 Sep 2024.

The court called his arrest illegal, issuing a letter on Monday ordering the Somaliland correctional officer to release the MP from Mandere prison, as there is no legal basis for his imprisonment.

Also, the Court said that the arrest of MP Mohamed Abib was not carried out according to the law, and based on the fact that Somaliland’s House of Representatives rejected the request of the Prosecutor’s Office to remove the immunity from the House of Representatives.

The MP was arrested on 2 Sep 2024 at the Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, while he was returning from the United Arab Emirates, and was accused of committing treason and defaming the military and opposing the interests of Somaliland.

The chairman of the Somaliland representative council together with the opposition parties have already condemned his arrest and described it as a violation of the Somaliland constitution. rejected the request by a majority vote.
