Somaliland: Parliamentarian Abib is in prison and the decision of the House of Representatives again blocked the request of the prosecution

Hargeisa (ANN)-The House of Representatives of Somaliland has once again rejected the request of the National Prosecutor’s Office, which was a document to question the MP who has been incarcerated for more than two weeks.

MP Mohamed Abib, who was arrested by the government, on 2 Sep 2024, at the Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, after returning from the UAE.

In their session today, Monday, they clearly rejected the request of the Prosecutor’s Office that the members of the parliament did not comply with the required law that the session of the House of Representatives can reject, or accept, when there are presented session two-thirds of The total number of House is 82.

But once again, the House of Representatives has clearly rejected the country’s prosecution for investigating and questioning MP Mohamed Abib Yusuf, who is still being held in Mandera prison by the government, without the law allowing him to be brought before a court, as the council has already rejected a bid to waive immunity two weeks ago.

The chairman of the council and the members of parliament have already condemned the arrest of MP Mohamed Abib and described it as illegal, but at the meeting of the council on Monday morning, the demand of the prosecution was presented so that the council can make a decision on the paper that the prosecution indicated that it should not be rejected. The way indicated by the law, was rejected again, when the general council attended by more than 55 MPs was asked for the vote.

The session was presided over by Governor Yasin Mohamud (Faratoon), he informed the members that they should make a decision on the letter protection law sheet that was submitted to them, as the protection law rejected the previous objections as there were more than 2/3 of the required number, and After the vote.

The Chairman of the Assembly, Yassin X. Mohamud Hiir (Faratoon), announced the results of the number of MPs who rejected, how many agreed and how many abstained.
