US President Donald Trump’s anti-immigration measures are aimed at “making America white again,” says an analyst in California, referring to the president’s infamous campaign slogan: “Making America Great Again.”

“People ask whether or not President Trump has made this decision, and I would argue he has no knowledge of any of these decisions,” Grosscup argued. “He has basically given carte blanche to his Homeland Security Department as well as [Homeland Security Secretary] John Kelly,” he said.

“They are very xenophobic in this administration, they have a fear of foreigners. They are attempting basically to make America white again,” the academic said.

The remarks came after a US federal judge in California temporarily blocked Trump’s administration from ending the DACA program that protects young immigrants from deportation.

Judge William Alsup said on Tuesday that the immigration policy established by the administration of former President Barack Obama must remain in place while litigation over Trump’s decision to end the program plays out.

As a result, DACA recipients who failed to renew their status by last year’s deadline will have a chance to submit renewal applications.

The Trump administration announced in September that it would end the program that has provided protection from deportation and the right to work legally to nearly 800,000 young people since it was authorized by Obama in 2012.

The news comes amid intense negotiations in Congress between Democrats and Republicans about an immigration package that may include granting legal status to about 800,000 immigrant children who have received temporary protection from deportation under DACA.

Trump has made it clear that any immigration package that concerns DACA recipients must also include funding for his controversial plan to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
