The Letter on Political Hallucination to the President of the United States Donald Trump Jr.

On March 16, 2025, the president of Villa-Somalia, a delusional autocrat, authored a letter addressed to the President of the United States, proposing the establishment of naval base and airport facilities in the town of Barbera. Upon reviewing this correspondence, many observers expressed skepticism, questioning its authenticity. However, a credible source has since confirmed that this letter is indeed an official communication from the President of Villa-Somalia.
It is crucial to note that the Villa-Somalia government maintains control over a radius of no more than 5 kilometers within the capital, Mogadishu. This limited authority raises a significant question about the president’s audacity in attempting to exert influence over Somaliland, which boasts its own established governance structures. The Villa-Somalia administration lacks even the support and recognition of several federal states within Somalia, leading many to doubt the legitimacy of the president’s claims to represent the entire nation.
The United States and the broader international community are acutely aware of the intricate geopolitics in the Horn of Africa, particularly the ongoing tensions between Somalia and Somaliland. The letter from the Villa-Somalia president appears to serve as a strategic distraction, an attempt to mask the pressing internal challenges faced by his administration, which many characterize as indicative of mismanagement and chaos.
It is disheartening to witness an incumbent leader undermine the resilience of the Republic Somaliland, a nation that has achieved a stable democratic framework for the past 34 years. The Somaliland government has:
Conducted four successful elections, allowing its citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Established a bicameral parliament, comprising two houses, both elected by the populace.
Maintained an independent judiciary, ensuring the rule of law.
Issued a national currency, the Somali Shilling, to facilitate economic transactions.
Designed a national emblem that symbolizes its sovereignty and unity.
Developed a well-trained national army, police force, and navy for maritime security.
Constructed institutional buildings essential for governance and public service.
In contrast, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Mogadishu is facing significant challenges in his efforts to maintain stability in the capital as the militant group Al-Shabaab continues to pose a formidable threat from its positions on the outskirts of the city. The organization’s insurgent tactics and relentless assaults have placed immense pressure on the beleaguered, one-clan Somali National Army, which is already struggling with issues of loyalty and discipline. Many soldiers, swayed by financial inducements, have shifted their allegiances to the highest bidder, resulting in a disheartening trend of desertions that leaves strategic positions vulnerable to Al-Shabaab’s advances.
The Somaliland government should address this fictional letter.
The Somaliland Government is strongly asked to formulate a thoughtful and comprehensive response to the recent communication from the President of Villa Somalia, which was directed towards the President of the United States. It is essential for Somaliland officials to carefully consider and address the sentiments articulated in this correspondence, particularly in relation to the ongoing discussions about the strategic implications of the Berbera base and its potential arrangements with the United States.
Due to the geopolitical significance of the Berbera port, which has been earmarked for various military and economic partnerships, it is imperative that Somaliland’s leadership articulates its stance on these developments. The letter from Villa Somalia raises issues that extend beyond regional security to encompass the broader implications for Somaliland’s sovereignty and its quest for international recognition.
Furthermore, it is crucial to emphasize that Villa Somalia, which governs only the Wardiglay District, has no authority over the sovereignty or statehood of the Republic of Somaliland. It is in Somaliland’s best interest to clearly assert its rights and interests regarding this issue, thereby preserving its independent status and promoting constructive engagement with international partners.
