Open Letter to the East African Countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

Subject: A Call for Recognition of Somaliland’s Independence: Ensuring Stability and Prosperity in the Horn of Africa.

To the Esteemed Leaders of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia:

We, the people of Somaliland, extend our heartfelt greetings to the governments and citizens of your great nations. As neighbors and fellow African states, we share a common history of struggle against
colonialism and a collective vision for a peaceful and prosperous continent. Today, we reach out to you with an urgent and sincere appeal for recognition of our sovereignty and independence.

Like your nations, Somaliland was once under British colonial rule. On June 26, 1960, we gained our independence from Britain, standing alongside Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, which also achieved independence in the early 1960s. Our shared history under British administration fostered a mutual
understanding and respect among our peoples.

However, while your nations embarked on a journey of nation-building, Somaliland chose a different path by uniting with Italian Somalia in the hope of realizing the dream of a “Greater Somalia.”
