False Claims in The Jerusalem Post: U.S. Does Not Plan to Relocate Gazans to Puntland, Morocco, or Somaliland; Puntland’s War Against Al-Shabaab a Strategy to Secure Funding and Weapons to Challenge Somaliland.

The recent article published in The Jerusalem Post claiming that former U.S. President Donald Trump is considering Morocco, Puntland, and Somaliland as potential relocation sites for Gazans is entirely fake.
The piece was authored by a lobbyist working on behalf of the Puntland regional government, aiming to elevate Puntland to the same level as Somaliland on the international stage. This fabricated narrative is a deliberate attempt to create an illusion of geopolitical significance for Puntland while simultaneously undermining Somaliland’s legitimacy.

A closer examination of the article reveals several red flags. Most notably, the voice featured in the piece is AI-generated, further discrediting its authenticity. Additionally, Puntland has actively engaged lobbyists to advance its agenda, with Dr. Issa, a Puntland representative based in the U.S., serving as its key figure in these efforts. This disinformation campaign is a calculated attempt to insert Puntland into international discourse, seeking media attention and political recognition akin to what Somaliland has earned through legitimate diplomatic and strategic efforts.

At the core of this initiative is Puntland’s persistent desire to position itself as an equal counterpart to Somaliland. In doing so, it not only exaggerates its own geopolitical relevance but also seeks to undermine Somaliland’s quest for international recognition. By spreading misinformation and fabricating narratives, Puntland aims to distort perceptions and create an artificial sense of parity between itself and Somaliland.

However, unlike Somaliland which has built its reputation through diplomacy, stability, and strategic partnerships Puntland is resorting to media manipulation and falsehoods in an attempt to gain recognition. This incident is yet another example of Puntland’s ongoing efforts to manufacture narratives that place it in the spotlight, even at the cost of misleading the public and distorting geopolitical realities.

Furthermore, both Puntland and Somalia have attempted to undermine Somaliland’s lobbying efforts in the United States by approaching Somaliland friends in the USA and offering financial incentives to sway their support. This desperate tactic highlights the extent to which Puntland and Somalia are willing to go to counter Somaliland’s legitimate diplomatic strides, reinforcing the notion that their strategies rely more on deception than on substantive political achievements.

Additionally, Puntland’s military campaign against Al-Shabaab appears to be another calculated move to secure financial and military assistance from the U.S. and Gulf countries. While counterterrorism efforts are crucial for regional security, the fact remains that Puntland’s primary objective is to acquire more weapons, which could later be used in Erigavo and against Somaliland. By positioning itself as a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, Puntland aims to attract international support, not only for security operations but also to advance its broader political and territorial ambitions.

Puntland and Somalia both have think tanks that provide strategic advice and plan for their governments’ long-term objectives. In contrast, Somaliland politicians remain preoccupied with the question of whether Berbera belongs to the A sub-clan or the B clan, despite both clans being from the same family. Meanwhile, our MPs are focused on issuing press releases that undermine our security, only to follow up with another release apologizing for their actions an approach that further undermines both our security and the social fabric of Somaliland.
