Congratulations to our esteemed President, Mr. Abdirahman Mahamed Abdillahi, for his eloquent and decisive response to the baseless claims articulated in the recent letter from Hassan Sheikh of Villa Somalia to the President of the United States of America. In this correspondence, Hassan Sheikh audaciously asserted his unfounded ownership of Berbera—a claim devoid of merit. It is widely recognized, both historically and through the steadfast resolve of its people, that Berbera is an integral part of Somaliland, a sovereign and independent nation. Our unwavering commitment to this truth reinforces our identity and underscores our rightful place on the world stage.
What remains largely overlooked by the international community is that Hassan and those who share his perspective appear to be suffering from a perplexing condition I refer to as ‘SOMALILAND SYNDROME.’ This metaphorical affliction seems to cloud their judgment and distort their understanding of our rightful claims and aspirations.
In light of the rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape and Somaliland’s enduring aspirations to secure the international recognition it unequivocally deserves, we must intensify our diplomatic efforts. This process involves not only amplifying our diplomatic presence in key global forums but also actively engaging with nations worldwide. By promoting understanding and garnering support for Somaliland’s quest for statehood, we can illuminate the path toward our rightful place on the international stage.
By amplifying our diplomatic outreach efforts, we can skillfully convey the distinctive qualities of our situation and the remarkable stability we provide within the region. This will position Somaliland as a credible and attractive partner in the realm of international affairs. Such a strategic approach will not only elevate our visibility on the global stage but also create pathways for meaningful partnerships that resonate with our national interests and aspirations. Through these alliances, we aim to promote mutual understanding and cooperation, ultimately strengthening our position as a key player in regional and international dynamics.
Mr. President, this evening, as we gather in celebration, we find ourselves honoring two significant occasions. The first is Eid al-Fitr, a time of joy and gratitude that marks the end of Ramadan, during which families and communities come together to share festive meals and express their appreciation for the blessings received over the past month. The second momentous event we commemorate is your thoughtful response to the President of Somalia, reflecting our continued commitment to promoting diplomatic relations and supporting stability in the region. Together, these occasions allow us to unite in celebration and reaffirm our dedication to both our cultural values and our international partnerships.
