The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti visited the UAE

Dubai (ANN)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, made a surprise visit to the UAE and held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, UAE.

The two countries have not been on good terms in recent years, due to a dispute between the DP World and the Djibouti government. The dispute was ended by a court in the United States, which led to The US District Court for the District of Columbia has enforced a $200 million award won by a subsidiary of the UAE’s DP World against Djibouti,confirming a partial award issued in 2022 in a long-running arbitration over.

This award stemmed from a dispute over a concession to run a container
terminal at the port of Doraleh, held by Doraleh Container Terminal (DCT), a joint venture between DP World and a Djibouti state entity. (Follow the court decision here).

According to a brief press release issued by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the meeting, the two sides discussed how to improve relations between the two countries.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed reaffirmed the UAE’s keenness to strengthen positive and fruitful cooperation with the Republic of Djibouti in a way that serves the development goals of the two countries and brings goodness and prosperity to their peoples. according to a press release a UAE.

On the other hand, it was mentioned in the press release that the two ministers raised the issue of the Gaza Strip in the war between Israel and Hamas. “During the meeting, the two foreign ministers touched on several regional and international issues of common concern, especially the developments in the Gaza Strip.”

Other issues, mentioned in the press release, include the conflict in Sudan, saying, in the text, “They also reviewed developments in Sudan and their humanitarian repercussions, as well as the outcomes of the Djibouti meeting on Sudan that was held recently.”
