New diplomatic policy towards the Puntland state
The Republic of Somaliland should take the initiative to establish diplomatic relations with the Puntland State, as it is our closest neighbor among the federal states of Somalia. The communities in both regions share a long history of trade and cultural exchange, facilitated by the main route that connects Bosaso, Garowe, Burao, and Hargeisa. This road has been vital for the economic interactions of the region, even before the recent crisis in Lascanood.
It is imperative to promote peace and understanding between Puntland and Somaliland. Our diplomatic approach should prioritize creating an atmosphere of harmony and friendship rather than conflict. While we do not expect Puntland to formally recognize our independence, we must work towards reducing hostilities and improving relations between the two regions.
Additionally, a similar diplomatic effort should be considered with the eastern and western states of Somalia, particularly in Baidoa, where opportunities for collaboration and peace-building also exist. Promoting dialogue and mutual respect can pave the way for a more stable and prosperous future for all communities involved.
Closing the door on diplomacy will not yield substantial results; rather, we must embrace a new and proactive policy that prioritizes collaboration and connection. It is crucial to recognize that isolating ourselves is detrimental; the Somali people should be treated as allies and friends who enhance our community. For example, in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, particularly in cities like Jijiga and Hargeisa, there exist opportunities open lines of communication and engagement. Strengthening these ties can involve cultural exchanges, economic partnerships, and joint development initiatives, which would not only benefit our communities but also promote long-term stability in the region. By empowering these relationships, we can create a more resilient and interconnected future for all involved.
In light of the ongoing tensions in the region, the President of Somaliland must adopt a bold and innovative policy that addresses and mitigates the underlying causes of hostility. This new approach should focus on encourging dialogue with neighboring states, prioritizing economic collaboration, and promoting cultural exchanges to build trust and mutual understanding. By taking decisive action, the President can position Somaliland as a proactive leader in regional stability and peace-building efforts.
Establishing a diplomatic relationship with Puntland is crucial for empowering regional stability and cooperation. Therefore, reaching out to the former President of Puntland, Mr. Abdiraman Mahamed Faroole, presents a valuable opportunity for dialogue and collaboration. Mr. Faroole, known for his leadership during a pivotal time in Puntland’s development, could offer valuable insights and facilitate constructive discussions.
To initiate this process, it is important that our current President, Mr. Abdiraman Mahamed Abdillahi, take the lead in this initiative. By formally reaching out to Mr. Faroole, our President can set the stage for potential partnerships in key areas such as trade, security, and humanitarian efforts. Through this comprehensive approach, the new diplomatic policy aims to build a long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationship with Puntland.
