Hargeysa (ANN)-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilaahi (Cirro), has spoken about his government’s stance on defending national sovereignty, and has clearly stated that attacks on the military are not a deviation from his government’s stance on peace and its efforts to end the conflict in the Eastern regions.

 

The President made the remarks today while attending a large event held to commemorate International Women’s Day, March 8, in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa.

  In a very valuable speech he delivered at the event, he said that the women of Somaliland do not deserve to be celebrated only today (March 8), but that they deserve to be remembered and honored every day.

The President of Somaliland, speaking about yesterday’s fighting in eastern Somaliland, said, “A war will not deter us from continuing the peace process, as we must defend the nation.”

“I am saddened by the unjust invasion that was launched against peaceful areas. Peace will not be diverted from us by a war that has been launched against an area. We will maintain to continuing the peace process, strengthen our defense, and defend the nation.”he said.

Presidential Spokesperson Hussein Aden Cige (Dayr) said that President Abdirahman Cirro once spoke about the unforgettable role that Somaliland women played in building the nation and establishing the state. He said, “Women are the backbone of building society, the economy, and the overall existence of the nation. They played an unforgettable role in history in recovering from the difficult times the country has gone through, and in the work of building a state.”

When he spoke about the Fundamental Rights granted to Somaliland women by the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland, he said,

“The Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland mandates that women in the state have equal rights, freedoms, and responsibilities to those of men, except for what is prohibited by Sharia law and our Islamic religion.”

He said that it is the constitutional duty of the government to protect women, while building their knowledge and skills. As a government, we must provide them with opportunities that are beneficial to their lives and the fulfillment of their national responsibilities, and to combat any violation of their dignity, and their physical and mental safety.

 

“Personally, I am proud to have been born with many sisters, six of whom are my sisters and my wife, who have all been my support and shield. I am filled with the value of a daughter in the family and the nation.”said the President of Somaliland, who highlighted the value and values ​​of Somaliland women

“My vision is for the Republic of Somaliland to become a nation where women play a prominent role in social affairs, economic development and political leadership, in accordance with the values ​​of our religion and our good traditions,” he added.
