The G-21 group’s activities seem to align with broader efforts to undermine Somaliland’s statehood and stability.

The G-21 Clan group has launched an intensive and many-direction campaign of propaganda across a wide array of social media platforms, strategically aiming to discredit the Somaliland government and sow discord among its citizens. This antagonism is deeply rooted in their persistent opposition to the legitimacy of the Somaliland state, which they view as challenging their interests and authority. Somaliland’s ongoing quest for international recognition is central to this opposition, particularly from influential nations such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

These countries and several others have lauded Somaliland’s recent presidential election, which was celebrated as a milestone for African democratic governance. The election showcased a transparent and fair process and resulted in a peaceful transfer of power to the nation’s sixth president. This significant achievement underscores the maturity of Somaliland’s democratic institutions. In contrast, the G-21 Clan’s efforts appear to be an attempt to delegitimize these advances and disrupt the stability of international acknowledgment and political legitimacy.

The G-21’s latest initiative not only seeks to undermine the legitimacy of the Somaliland government but also presents disturbing allegations that Somaliland has been offering support and medical facilities to Daesh (ISIS) terrorist fighters. The so-called G-21 group is a coalition of Highbinders figures, including former prime ministers and presidents in Somalia, a notable Kenyan Member of Parliament known for his vocal criticism of regional governments, and prominent business leaders from the Darood Clan, all of whom are operating from Kenya. Their collective efforts appear focused on rallying international attention against Somaliland and even the Somalia government, raising serious concerns about security and governance in the region while striving to advance their own political agendas.

The global community is increasingly aware of the intricate affiliations and motivations behind those advocating for a clan-based narrative. This leads to a more nuanced understanding of the dynamics within the strained political environment. As allegations surface regarding the intentions of these proponents and the contentious agendas championed by the G-21, Somaliland remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold its sovereignty and protect its territorial integrity against external pressures. The government is resolutely prepared to confront any potential challenges these corrupt groups pose, demonstrating a firm commitment to its national principles. This determination reaffirms Somaliland’s resilience and strategic resolve as it endeavors to secure international recognition and promote a climate of stability in the region, ensuring its voice is heard globally.

The G-21 group, despite its controversial and often underhanded tactics against Somaliland and Somalia, comprises several individuals with aspirations to participate in the upcoming 2026 Somali presidential election. While these members seek to position themselves as viable candidates for leadership, they are grappling with significant internal divisions rooted primarily in tribal affiliations and deep-seated animosities. This tribal discord complicates their efforts to unify under a common political agenda and raises questions about the stability and effectiveness of their leadership ambitions amidst ongoing regional tensions.
