Somaliland Electoral Commission Released Election Campaign Schedule

Hargeisa (ANN)- The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, met with the members of the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC), at the presidential palace today.

According to a brief statement issued after the meeting at the Somaliland Presidential Palace, the purpose of the meeting between the President and the members of the Somaliland Elections Committee  (NEC) was to speed up the smooth running of the elections, which are only a few days away from the period scheduled for November 13, 2024.

In the brief statement issued by the Presidency, it was mentioned that the members of the election committee informed the President of the country how they are preparing as a committee for the elections.

On the other hand, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has today officially announced the Schedule of the Presidential Election Campaign and the competition of Political Organizations for the transition to the National Parties of the Republic of Somaliland, with the schedule of the campaign being shown to start from 19 October to 10 November 2024.

According to the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Muse Haji Yusuf explaining the election campaign was scheduled for 23 days and divided into 7 political organizations and the three existing parties.

The elections in Somaliland have been long overdue, as there has been a dispute between the opposition and the government in the last year, which has completely shaken the security and stability of the country, and undermined the reputation of Somaliland in the international community and the democratic world.

The elections on 13 November will be the fourth time that the Somaliland people have voted for the President and Vice President since Somaliland adopted the democratic electoral system and party competition in 2002.

Also, it is the third time that Somaliland, has held the elections for political organizations and parties, the election for the presidency and the organizations the two special elections, which have been highly anticipated, and many times disputes have resulted in delays. and the legal side, which was disputed as to their order, but in the end it was agreed that the two elections would be held together on November 13, 2024.
