Hargeisa(ANN)-The US Africa Command, based in Djibouti, spoke at a meeting with Somaliland President Muse Bihi on Thursday, May 12, 20222, at Egal International Airport in Hargeisa.
A statement posted on the AFRCOM website highlights the discussions between the President of Somaliland and the US delegation.
“U.S. Army Gen. Stephen Townsend, commander, U.S. Africa Command, along with The Honorable Larry E. André, Jr., U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, met with Muse Bihi Abdi, President of Somaliland, in Hargeisa, Somalia, April 12, 2022.” This is stated in the statement published by AFRICOM.
“The leaders discussed expanded and enriched partnership with Somaliland, as with Federal Member States, consistent with the U.S. “single Somalia” policy and in line with Somalia’s constitution. Following the meeting in Hargeisa, André and Townsend traveled to Berbera to view an airfield that U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa assessed last summer.” said the statement.
The statements made here are an affront to the sovereignty of Somaliland, which does not respect the sovereignty of the 31-year-old Republic of Somaliland.
Absolutely, it seems the United States has no respect for the independence of the Republic of Somaliland, nor does the United States understand regional politics.
As the U.S. it continues to confuse Somaliland with thirty years of peace, freedom, democracy, elections and international development and Somalia at home to hostilities, chaos, bombings and political unrest.
At the same time, the content of Africom’s article angered the people of Somaliland, who saw it as a violation of their sovereignty and dignity.
During their visit to Hargeisa, the US delegation paid a short visit to the coastal city of Berbera, visiting Berbera Airport, and explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess.
“That assessment and this visit are a part of routine efforts to assess potential operating locations to be able to prepare for contingencies, exercise readiness or adjust force posture as needed.” said, the statement.
However, the words in AFRICOM’s statement of contempt and disrespect for the Republic of Somaliland clearly show that the United States is still on the wrong track in the Horn of Africa region, and is on the path already lost its Allie’s former counters.
