Washington(ANN)- US Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden has said that if he is elected president, he would not pardon President Donald Trump from any possible charges he may face in future.
The former Vice President told Radio Iowa on Sunday that he would not follow the example of former president Gerald Ford, who pardoned his own predecessor former president Richard M. Nixon, for his illegal activities regarding the Watergate scandal.
“I think President Ford, God love him he’s a good guy, I knew him pretty well, I think if he had to do it over again he wouldn’t have done it,” he said.
Trump is facing an impeachment inquiry after a whistlerblower complaint emerged that he had pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to dig up “dirt” on Biden.
House Democrats, spearheaded by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, launched the impeachment inquiry of Trump after the whistleblower’s disclosure of the president’s July 25 phone call to Zelenskiy, in which Trump repeatedly asked him to help to smear Biden and his son, Hunter.
Trump, who has denied wrongdoing in regard to the Ukraine scandal, is still insisting that Biden should be investigated for his dealings with the country.Biden denies any wrongdoings.
As of yet, Trump has not faced criminal charges. US laws prohibit court judges from indicting a sitting president.
